Hello BeholdBeGold community!
I'm Juanita, a proud two-time childhood cancer survivor. My five-year battle with childhood cancer began when I was diagnosed with pre-B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on August 28, 2003, at age 10. After completing treatment on April 17, 2006, I experienced a Central Nervous System Relapse of ALL on September 15, 2006. Despite challenges such as a near-death experience, procedure infections, coma, stroke, and cognitive damage, I overcame tremendous obstacles with the support of God, my family, medical team, and community.
My passion for this cause stems from my personal experience with late effects. Living with these challenges has shown me firsthand the barriers they create, affecting my quality of life. This fuels my commitment to supporting others who also face these long-term effects of childhood cancer treatment.
BeholdBeGold was born from my desire to raise awareness and support for childhood cancer survivors facing late effects of treatment. Beyond treatment, many of us face lifelong physical and psychosocial challenges. I am committed to providing a voice for survivors and ensuring they receive the ongoing care and resources they need to thrive.
Thank you for joining me in this important journey of advocacy and awareness! Behold-Be-Gold!!
Remember that no matter what obstacles and barriers you face after #survivorship there is always something to be grateful for and proud of. You #survived and that’s a HUGE blessing. This is #beholdbegold, living and being aware of the #lateeffects of childhood cancer, but most importantly, being aware that we can persevere despite the challenges that will come against us as we age. We conquered once as little ones, and we will continue to conquer down the road! Behold-Be-Gold!
2019, A year of advocacy. The year I said "Behold and Be Gold"
Highlights of significant moments throughout my life (before and after childhood cancer) demonstrating the initiation of BeholdBeGold, and the milestones accomplished and still accomplishing while undergoing the late effects (in my case cognitive late effects) of childhood cancer.
